Wenlock Spring
Still Natural Source Water
Bottled on the Orme family farm at Wolverton, near Church Stretton, Shropshire, from a spring in Wenlock Edge limestone that the producer says comes from about 200 feet down. Defra’s register lists the source as “Shropshire Hills”. The business began in 1989 as a farm diversification and is still family-owned (Bruce, Matthew and Robert Orme, Companies House, 2016 onwards). The source is recognised for natural mineral water, but the producer’s pages also say spring water and we haven’t seen a label, so we don’t state the legal description. It also fills Belu’s 330 ml cans with spring water.

Mineral character
Hard. Per litre: calcium 86.6 mg, magnesium 35.4 mg, sodium 22.5 mg, chloride 26 mg, potassium 2.5 mg. Hardness is about 362 mg/L as CaCO₃, dry residue 406 mg/L, pH 7.5. Sulphate and bicarbonate aren’t published, so the profile is incomplete. The listed ions make up about 173 mg/L of the 406 mg/L residue. Bicarbonate probably accounts for most of the rest, as is usual for limestone, but that is our inference.
Documented use and context
The Craft Guild of Chefs lists Wenlock Spring as a partner and uses it at its events (craftguildofchefs.org, undated). Shropshire Star reported a supply deal with Virgin Trains first class on 3 December 2013.
