Rosbacher

StillRosbach, Hesse, GermanyNatural mineral water

Rosbacher is sourced from a mineral spring in Rosbach vor der Höhe, in the Wetteraukreis district of Hesse, Germany, approximately 25 kilometres north of Frankfurt am Main on the eastern slopes of the Taunus range. The spring’s mineral properties were noted by Celtic and Roman settlers; written records establishing Rosbach as a source of mineral water date to 1584. In 1876, Frankfurt merchant Karl Andreae acquired the spring from the municipality of Nieder-Rosbach and began systematic commercial bottling. In the early 20th century, the whisky magnate Lord Dewar is recorded as having introduced Rosbacher to the British royal court. Since 2001, Rosbacher has been part of Hassia Mineralquellen GmbH & Co. KG, a family-owned beverage group headquartered in Bad Vilbel, Hesse, founded 1864. Rosbacher holds natural mineral water status.

Mineral character

Rosbacher is one of the most heavily mineralised waters in the TWD database. Bicarbonate is the highest ion at 1,225 mg/L, followed by calcium at 224 mg/L, chloride at 142 mg/L, magnesium at 101 mg/L, sodium at 89 mg/L, and sulphate at 8 mg/L. Total hardness is 975 mg/L as CaCO₃; alkalinity is 1,005 mg/L as CaCO₃. TDS is approximately 1,789 mg/L. The calcium-to-magnesium ratio of approximately 2.2:1 (224:101) is one of the most balanced in the database at this level of mineralisation; for reference, Gerolsteiner (calcium 348, magnesium 108) achieves a similar ratio at a slightly higher calcium concentration. For blending, Rosbacher is a bicarbonate-and-calcium concentrate with significant magnesium and an unusually elevated chloride for a water without corresponding sodium.
