Aqua D’or

StillDenmark’s biggestNatural mineral water

Aqua D’or is sourced from a protected artesian aquifer beneath the Jutland heath near Fasterholt in central Jutland, Denmark. The water is extracted from approximately 160 metres below the surface, where it has been filtered through layers of sand and gravel over an estimated 300 years. The company, Aqua d’Or Natural Mineral Water A/S, was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Fasterholt. Danone acquired a minority stake in 2006, positioning the brand as the leading bottled water in the Danish and Nordic market. Subsequent ownership changes are uncertain in the available record: a proposed sale to Royal Unibrew was announced in 2021 but the final status of that transaction is flagged in the research notes below. Aqua D’or holds natural mineral water status.

Mineral character

Aqua D’or is a moderately soft, calcium-bicarbonate water. Bicarbonate is the highest ion at 120 mg/L, with calcium at 36 mg/L and magnesium at 3 mg/L giving a total hardness of 102 mg/L as CaCO₃. Alkalinity is 98 mg/L as CaCO₃. The calcium-to-magnesium ratio of 12:1 is notably skewed toward calcium; magnesium is almost negligible. Sulphate (3 mg/L) and chloride (13 mg/L) are both low; sodium is 10 mg/L. TDS is approximately 185 mg/L. The overall profile is clean and unremarkable: moderately mineralised, calcium-led, with no ion standing out.
