Acqua Panna

StillTuscanyNatural mineral water

Acqua Panna is sourced from a spring within the Villa Panna estate, a 1,300-hectare protected area in the Mugello valley of Tuscany, roughly 25 km north of Florence. The spring emerges on the slopes of Monte Gazzaro in the municipality of Scarperia e San Piero. The estate entered documented history in 1564 when the Medici family acquired it as a hunting reserve; they are recorded as having transported the spring water by cart to Florence for household use. The water filters through limestone and sandstone over an estimated 10–15 years before emerging at the source. Acqua Panna holds natural mineral water status. The brand is owned by S.Pellegrino (Nestlé group) and bottled on site.

Mineral character

Acqua Panna is a soft, lightly mineralised water. Its bicarbonate of 106 mg/L is the dominant ion, with calcium at 32 mg/L and magnesium at 6.5 mg/L giving a total hardness of 107 mg/L as CaCO₃. Sulphate (22 mg/L), chloride (7.8 mg/L), and sodium (6.6 mg/L) are all low. The overall profile is balanced and unremarkable in the best sense: no single ion dominates heavily, and TDS sits at around 141 mg/L. In the context of the database, it sits in the lower-middle range across all six ions.

Documented use and context

Acqua Panna is the official still water partner of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards and the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy, both of which are sponsored by the S.Pellegrino/Acqua Panna brand. These are commercial partnerships rather than independent endorsements, and should be understood as such.
